The most blessed and awaited month is here—the month in which the Qur’an was revealed as guidance for mankind. For 29–30 days, Muslims fast from dawn to sunset, embracing faith, reflection, and spiritual renewal. May this Ramadan bring us closer to Allah.
Ramadan is the 9th month of the Islamic lunar calendar. The literal meaning of Ramadan (رَمَضَان) is ‘great heat’.
In Islam, fasting the whole month of Ramadan, from dawn to dusk, is compulsory for every able Muslim, man or woman.
يٰٓاَيُّهَا الَّذِيْنَ اٰمَنُوْا كُتِبَ عَلَيْكُمُ الصِّيَامُ كَمَا كُتِبَ عَلَى الَّذِيْنَ مِنْ قَبْلِكُمْ لَعَلَّكُمْ تَتَّقُوْنَۙ ١٨٣
Oh, you who believe! Fasting is prescribed to you as it was prescribed to those before you, that you may learn piety and righteousness” [Quran,2:183]
Abu Huraira reported: The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said: When the month of Ramadan begins, the gates of the heaven are opened, the gates of Hellfire are closed, and the devils are chained. [Ṣaḥīḥ al-Bukhārī 1899]
